reviewing classic christian rock, metal, pop and alternative albums primarily from the 1970's thru the 1980's.....the "golden years".....and also helping you track down some of the more obscure out-of-print gems...
Well well, you've stumbled upon my blog. What a delight. My name is Andrew. I'm an 18-year-old (as of November, 2008) who just happens to love the great Christian rock and roll, heavy metal etc. from yesteryear...as the site header says, "primarily the 70's and 80's".
I have long enjoyed Angelic Warlord's website, http://www.angelicwarlord.com/, a great place to find reviews of classic-style Christian metal, but I am looking to expand an archive of this gold mine of music from the olden days of yore, and will concentrate on releases from bands who were around in or before the year 1990, although at some point there may be an exception or two. I will be using a grading system very similar to Angelic Warlord's, although my own opinion will probably be too prevalent. Since many albums from back in the day were recorded on low budgets and feature low production values, the production will not be a major part of the score, although I will mention the quality of the production and add or dock points if it is exceptionally good or so bad as to take away from the musical appreciation.
10%= I'd (almost) rather listen to something by Stellar Kart or Hawk Nelson! Unbearable! 20%=Pretty darn lame, only for the very curious. 30%=Fair, not bad for a listen or two. 40%=Ok, might have some decent songs. 50%=Below average, but not at all bad. 60%=Above average, pretty good. 70%=Strong, very good. 80%=Excellent, a necessary classic. 90%=Fantastic, an absolute must-hear, essential. 100%=So awesome that if you hear it, you will literally become airborne AND surrounded by gourmet chocolate!
If the album is out-of-print, I will also try to direct you where to find a downloadable copy online (be sure to check out my links!). If the album has been reissued or is still in print, I will mention it. Please support the artists if it is possible and their work has been reissued. Remember, all of my opinions are strictly my own. Please check back often as I am aiming for a goal of two reviews per week!
